A cafe nestled in the heart of Paeroa, NZ, complete with Mt Atkinson coffee and 50's inspired boutique accommodation

There is also boutique accommodation on site; The Guard’s Cottage is self-contained and comfortable with ‘50s inspired decor and has everything one would need for a relaxing stay. The Miner’s Cabin is charming and rustic with a warm, relaxed style and a cosy loft bed.

Paeroa provides a perfect base for riding the Hauraki Rail Trail, exploring the Karangahake Gorge or antique shopping and relaxing.

Firmly set in the history of the area, the building was originally commissioned as the National Bank Gold Refinery in 1914. As such, the massive solid concrete walls, double height stud capped with huge timber beams and Rimu roof structure certainly fitted the grandeur of purpose. A large, light filled space, which manages to be cosy and welcoming; armchairs, books and a roaring fire in the winter and rustic outdoor tables and ivy covered walls in the summer.

We use free range eggs and bacon, local produce where possible and organic milk in our coffees. Baking is all made on the premises from scratch; no premixes, no substitutes. Below are some selections of our counter food; new treats are being added all the time.

THE REFINERY GUARD'S COTTAGE

The Refinery Guard's Cottage: Private, charming self-contained accommodation set in the grounds of the historic Gold Refinery building. Light filled and comfortable with retro inspired decor - The Guard's Cottage is arguably the best boutique accommodation set in the heart of Paeroa; the 'antiques town' of NZ.

The cottage is private and totally separate from your hosts. Our on site cafe/coffee shop is open (Wed-Sun) with breakfast by arrangement on other days. One complimentary coffee for guests per visit.

The cottage is self contained, and includes:
